As reported in Rich’s most recent article, the Annual Report scam being run by a company called Corporate Records Service doesn’t appear to be going away. Now I have the unhappy task to let you know there are a couple of new ones emerging since then. These are both intended to con people into buying a copy of a deed they could obtain on their own from their county’s recorder.
Let your clients, friends, colleagues and family members know they should beware if they receive a mailing, fax or email entitled something such as “Illinois Deed Provider” or ” Local Records Office,” sometimes with the name of the town or county included as a part of one of these labels. The typical pitch is for the recipient to pay the sender up to $89 to receive what is cast as an urgent or essential deed or related real estate records.
NO SUCH DOCUMENTS OR FEES ARE REQUIRED FROM SUCH A PARTY!
If you get an “official looking” communication such as this, please contact us. If you or someone you know has already paid for this, please contact us so we can get your information to the authorities investigating this matter.
